Touch Into Movement: Contact Improvisation and Bodywork

Parallels between bodywork and CI are examined and explored through the lens and framework of the musculo-skeletal-connective system of the body. As different levels of touch and weight give rise to similar bodily connections and pathways in both practices, we will be drawing on the movement vocabulary of Contact Improvisation, judo, and shiatsu, as we mix and match, contrast and compare, and re-invent new ways of using our bodies as we work with the bodies of others. These classes will work with the individual´s particular way of moving and the organization of their body to enable the effortless, integration of movement and bodywork (shiatsu) into dancing. The role of the connective tissue and fascia is an integral aspect of this work and will be highlighted. Some experience with dance or CI is desirable but not essential.
